Muscular dystrophies (MD)

Definition:

Muscular dystrophies (MD) are a heterogeneous group of inherited disorders characterized by findings on muscle biopsy. In general, they feature progressive muscle wasting and weakness. In addition to the musculoskeletal system, direct and indirect effects can be seen in a variety of organ systems. These issues create challenges in patients with MD for ambulation and mobility, self-care, pain, fatigue, and community involvement.
