ASIP/Agouti Protein, Human (His, Myc)

Cat. No.: HY-P702613
Handling Instructions

ASIP/Agouti proteins tightly regulate melanogenesis by binding to the melanocortin-1 receptor (MC1R), disrupting alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH) signaling, and inhibiting cyclic AMP (cAMP) production. This down-regulates eumelanin production, shifting pigmentation toward a yellow/red color. ASIP/Agouti Protein, Human (His, Myc) is the recombinant human-derived ASIP/Agouti, expressed by E. coli Cell-free , with C-Myc, N-10*His labeled tag. The total length of ASIP/Agouti Protein, Human (His, Myc) is 110 a.a.,

Background

The ASIP/Agouti Protein plays a crucial role in the regulation of melanogenesis, exerting its influence by binding to the melanocortin-1 receptor (MC1R). This interaction interferes with the signaling initiated by alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH), inhibiting the production of cyclic AMP (cAMP). Consequently, there is a down-regulation of eumelanogenesis, responsible for the synthesis of brown/black pigment, and an increase in pheomelanin production, leading to yellow/red pigment synthesis. In higher primates, ASIP/Agouti may impact the quality rather than the pattern of hair pigmentation. Beyond its role in pigmentation, ASIP/Agouti is speculated to play a role in the neuroendocrine aspects of melanocortin action and could potentially influence lipid metabolism in adipocytes. The multifaceted functions of ASIP/Agouti highlight its significance in various physiological processes beyond melanogenesis regulation.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.

The reconstitution calculator equation

Volume (to add to vial) = Mass (in vial) ÷ Desired Reconstitution Concentration

Volume (to add to vial) = Mass (in vial) ÷ Desired Reconstitution Concentration
= ÷

The dilution calculator equation

Concentration (start) × Volume (start) = Concentration (final) × Volume (final)

This equation is commonly abbreviated as: C1V1 = C2V2

Concentration (start) × Volume (start) = Concentration (final) × Volume (final)
× = ×
C1   V1   C2   V2

The specific activity calculator equation

Specific Activity (Unit/mg) = 106 ÷ Biological Activity (ED50)

Specific Activity (Unit/mg) = 106 ÷ Biological Activity (ED50)
Unit/mg = 106 ÷ ng/mL
