Buruli ulcer

Definition:

Buruli ulcer (BU) is a neglected emerging disease that has recently been reported in some countries especially in central and western Africa. BU is a serious necrotizing cutaneous infection caused by Mycobacterium ulcerans that is related to the aquatic environment. BU is characterized by indolent, typically painless necrotizing skin lesions.
