Definition:

Dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) is the key enzyme in de novo biosynthesis of pyrimidine in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes that provides nucleotides for RNA/DNA synthesis essential for proliferation. DHODH also is rate-limiting enzyme in biosynthesis of pyrimidone which catalyzes the oxidation of dihydro-orotate to orotate. DHODH paly a role in cancer cells proliferation.
