Zymography Methods

Definition:

Zymography is used to measure the activity of enzymes and is widely applied in enzyme research, metabolic pathway analysis, and drug screening. Samples are run in a gel containing gelatin under non-reducing conditions. The gel is then incubated under enzyme activity conditions, and after staining with Coomassie Brilliant Blue, areas of gelatin depletion are used as an indicator of enzyme activity. This method provides an intuitive reflection of the enzyme's action on its substrate.
