SDS COA Handling Instructions Technical Support

1-naphthol (Furro ER) is an excited state proton transfer (ESPT) fluorescent molecular probe. 1-naphthol can sense the hydrophobic domains in micellar aggregation and accurately sense the sol-gel transition. 1-naphthol can be used to study the thermally induced microenvironmental changes and hydration levels of Pluronic F127 (PF127) in different microenvironments in aqueous media.

In Vitro

The ESPT kinetics of 1-Naphthol are sensitive to the availability of proton-accepting waters around the probe microenvironment, which is reflected in the fluorescence decay kinetics of the different protonated forms of the probe. The fluorescence lifetimes of excited anionic and neutral forms of 1-Naphthol allow for direct monitoring of the hydration level in the microenvironment[1].
1-Naphthol is distributed in all domains of the system: bulk aqueous phase, interfaces, and hydrophobic dry core, and the probe can fully sense all domains. In addition to the usual fluorescence intensity and spectral shifts, the lifetime parameter set of the two protonated forms also plays an important role[1].

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
