Phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate 5-kinases

Phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate 5-kinases (PI4P5K) are a class of enzymes that phosphorylate phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate. Phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate 5-kinases phosphorylate phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate (PI4P) in the 5-position to form phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PI45P2). There are two types of phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate 5-kinases found which includes Type I and Type II. Murine PI4P5K type Ibeta (mPIP5K-Ibeta) was implicated in receptor mediated endocytosis through the isolation of a truncated and inactive form of the enzyme that blocked the ligand-dependent downregulation of the colony-stimulating factor-1 receptor. Phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate 5-kinases regulate diverse cellular processes such as G protein-coupled receptor(GPCR) signaling, vesicle trafficking, chemotaxis and cellular movement[1][2].
