Chlorophyll b is an orally active tetrapyrrole derivative and pigment. Chlorophyll b can be obtained from photosynthetic organisms such as plants and algae. Chlorophyll b acts as a hydrogen donor and increases Glutathione levels. Chlorophyll b has antioxidant activity and functionally replaces chlorophyll a in photosystem II to participate in photosynthesis. Chlorophyll b reduces Cisplatin (HY-17394)-induced DNA damage, chromosome instability, and oxidative stress. Chlorophyll b is mainly used in the study of plant photosynthesis mechanism.

Description

Chlorophyll b is an orally active tetrapyrrole derivative and pigment. Chlorophyll b can be obtained from photosynthetic organisms such as plants and algae. Chlorophyll b acts as a hydrogen donor and increases Glutathione levels. Chlorophyll b has antioxidant activity and functionally replaces chlorophyll a in photosystem II to participate in photosynthesis. Chlorophyll b reduces Cisplatin (HY-17394)-induced DNA damage, chromosome instability, and oxidative stress. Chlorophyll b is mainly used in the study of plant photosynthesis mechanism[1][2][3].

In Vitro

Chlorophyll b can serve as the major pigment in functional photosystem II complexes of cyanobacteria when introduced into a photosystem I-less strain of Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 along with lhcb encoding light-harvesting complex (LHC)II from pea[1].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

In Vivo

Chlorophyll b (0.2-0.5 mg/kg; gavage; daily; 13 days) reduces Cisplatin (HY-17394)-induced DNA damage, chromosome instability, and oxidative stress in mice[2].
Chlorophyll b (0.5 mg/kg; gavage; daily; 13 days) combined with lutein shows antigenotoxic and antimutagenic effects as well as prevents Cisplatin-induced GSH depletion in peripheral blood cells in mice[3].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Animal Model: Female and male albino Swiss mice (Mus musculus) (both genders, approximately 30 g, 7-8 weeks old)[3]
Dosage: 0.5 mg/kg body weight
Administration: Administered daily by gavage for 13 consecutive days
Result: Presented antigenotoxic and antimutagenic effects in different cell types of mice, such as peripheral blood, bone marrow, liver, and kidney cells.
Prevented the glutathione depletion induced by cisplatin in peripheral blood cells, maintaining the glutathione concentration at a level similar to the control group.
Had no significant effect on catalase activity.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
