Background

The B18R protein functions as a potent antagonist against the antiviral effects induced by host IFN-alpha/beta and key IFN-inducible proteins, including the host OAS1 involved in viral RNA degradation. Acting as a soluble IFN-alpha receptor, B18R inhibits the interaction between host IFN-alpha and its receptor. This interference in the IFN-alpha signaling pathway serves to counteract the host's innate immune response against viral infections. Biological Activity

Measured by its binding ability in a functional ELISA. Immobilized IFN-α1a at 2 μg/mL (100 μL/well) can bind Vaccinia virus B18R. The ED50 for this effect is 9.681 ng/mL.
