Background

IGFBP-2 protein acts as an inhibitor, specifically targeting IGF-mediated growth and developmental rates. As a member of the IGF-binding protein family, IGFBP-2 prolongs the half-life of IGFs and exhibits dual functionality, either inhibiting or stimulating the growth-promoting effects of IGFs in cell culture. Biological Activity

Measured by its ability to inhibit the biological activity of IGF-I on MCF-7 human breast cancer cells. The ED50 for this effect is 0.2342 µg/mL in the presence of 30 ng/mL IGF-I, corresponding to a specific activity is 4.269×103 units/mg.
