Description

Sodium Thioglycolate is a biochemical reagent that can be used as a biological material or organic compound for life science related research.

In Vivo

Thioglycolate sodium can be used in animal modeling to create peritonitis models[1][2].

Thioglycolate sodium can be used for animal modeling to create peritonitis models[1][2].
Background
Thioglycolate sodium induces peritonitis by disrupting the structure of erythrocyte membranes and reducing cellular osmotic resistance.
Specific Mmodeling Methods
Mice: BALB/c • male or female • 6-8 weeks old
Administration: 3 mL of a sterile 3% (wt/vol) Thioglycolate sodium solution • injection
Note
(1) Carbon tetrachloride is dissolved in 10% (v/v) corn oil.
(2) Drug delivery groups: (a) No use of Carbon tetrachloride; (b) Starting at 4 weeks old, a total of 4 times; (c) Starting at 26 weeks old, a total of 4 times; (d) Starting at 4 weeks old, a total of 8 times; (e) Starting at 18 weeks old, a total of 8 times.
(3) All the mice were euthanized at 36 weeks of age. The liver lesions were examined visually and fixed in a 4% formaldehyde solution, then embedded in paraffin for histopathological examination.
Modeling Indicators
The number of cells in the peritoneal cavity has increased, including neutrophils, monocytes/macrophages, and lymphocytes.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
