β-Galactosidase, E. coli  (Synonyms: EC 3.2.1.23; GAL)

Cat. No.: HY-P2869
SDS Handling Instructions Technical Support

β-Galactosidase (EC 3.2.1.23) is a glycoside hydrolase that hydrolyzes the β-glycosidic bonds formed between galactose and its organic moieties. In E.coli, the lacZ gene is the structural gene of β-galactosidase, which can be used as part of the induction system lac operon. β-Galactosidase can hydrolyze lactose to form glucose and galactose, and enter glycolysis; it can also catalyze the transgalactosylation of lactose into allolactose; allolactose can be cracked into monosaccharides.

In Vitro

This product is derived from fungal fermentation.
Inhibitors: Co2+, Cu2+, Ni2+, Zn2+, Proclin
pH range: Effective pH range 3.0-8.0, Optimum pH range 3.5-5.0
Temperature range: Effective temperature range 55℃-65℃, Optimum temperature range 55℃-60℃

Instructions
Enzyme solutions are susceptible to oxidation and should be prepared fresh. Oxidation can be minimized by preparing solutions in 50 mM Tris HCl, pH 7.3, 5- 10 mM β-mercaptoethanol, and 10 mM MgCl2.
Note: Thiol reducing agents should only be used in the presence of magnesium chloride, as β-mercaptoethanol will have an inhibitory effect when magnesium chloride is not present.

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
