Emopamil Binding Protein

Emopamil Binding Protein

Emopamil Binding Protein (EBP) is a membrane-bound cholesterol biosynthetic enzyme involved in the key steps of cholesterol synthesis and a target for neuroprotective agents. It belongs to the extended EBP superfamily. Emopamil Binding Protein is mainly localized in the endoplasmic reticulum membrane and widely expressed in various tissues, especially the liver. EBP can bind to chemotherapeutic drugs, reducing their effectiveness and leading to tumor resistance.

EBP-IN-1 (compound 11) is an inhibitor of emopamil-binding protein (EBP), a sterol isomerase in the cholesterol biosynthetic pathway. EBP-IN-1 has a long half-life in rodents and has good metabolic turnover and brain penetration properties. EBP-IN-1 enhances oligodendrocyte formation in human cortical organoids.
