N-2 Supplement promotes cell growth and survival. It has been associated with the growth and expression of neuroblastoma, and with post-mitotic neuronal survival and expression in primary cultures of both the peripheral nervous system (PNS) and central nervous system (CNS). It is primarily used in the cultivation of neural cell lines and in the culture and directed differentiation of pluripotent stem cells. It can be used in conjunction with growth factors such as bFGF and EGF in serum-free neuronal cell culture mediums, DMEM and the DMEM/F12.

MCE N-2 Serum-free Supplement (100×) is an upgraded version of Bottenstein’s N-1 formulation and is a serum-free additive with clearly defined chemical components. It contains transferrin, recombinant insulin, progesterone, putrescine, and selenite, among others. The recommended working concentration in the cell culture medium is 1×.

  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

    Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
