Description

Shatavarin IV is a steroidal saponin, that can be isolated from the roots of Asparagus racemosus (Liliaceae). Shatavarin IV shows anticancer activity. Shatavarin IV elicits lifespan extension and alleviates Parkinsonism in Caenorhabditis elegans[1].

In Vivo

Shatavarin IV (50 μM) reduces the accumulation of intracellular lipofuscin in C. elegans[1].
Shatavarin IV (0-100 μM) reduces ROS level in C. elegans[1].
Shatavarin IV (50 μM) significantly increases the mRNA expression of stress responsive genes in C. elegans, namely sod-1, sod-2, sod-3, gst-4, gst-7 and ctl-2[1].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
