  3. Pipecolic acid

Pipecolic acid is a metabolite of lysine and an immunomodulator, which can induce systemic acquired resistance (SAR) in plants. Pipecolic acid inhibits ferroptosis in diabetic retinopathy through the YAP-GPX4 signaling pathway. Pipecolic acid can induce apoptosis in neuronal cells. In addition, Pipecolic acid can be used as a diagnostic marker for pyridoxin-dependent epilepsy.

Description

Pipecolic acid is a metabolite of lysine and an immunomodulator, which can induce systemic acquired resistance (SAR) in plants. Pipecolic acid inhibits ferroptosis in diabetic retinopathy through the YAP-GPX4 signaling pathway. Pipecolic acid can induce apoptosis in neuronal cells. In addition, Pipecolic acid can be used as a diagnostic marker for pyridoxin-dependent epilepsy[1][2][3][4][5].

In Vitro

Pipecolic acid (1-2000 μM; 6-48 h) can induce systemic acquired resistance by increasing the levels of free radicals, NO and ROS[1].
Pipecolic acid can inhibit oxidative stress, ferroptosis and apoptosis in HRCECs cells treated with high glucose, which is related to GPX4-YAP signaling pathway[2].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

In Vivo

Pipecolic acid (intragastric administration; 250 mg/kg; 1 week) can improve diabetic retinopathy in mouse model[2].

Animal Model: Male wild-type C57BL/6 mice aged 8 weeks old with Diabetic retinopathy (DR)[3]
Dosage: 250 mg/kg
Administration: Intragastric administration; 1 week
Result: Had positive effects on weight gain and blood sugar level in mice.
Significantly reduced the ratio of retinal positive areas to whole positive areas.
Regulated oxidative stress and iron metabolism.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
