Description

(-)-Hydroxycitric acid (Garcinia acid) is the principal acid of fruit rinds of Garcinia cambogia. (-)-Hydroxycitric acid is a potent and competitive and orally active inhibitor of ATP citrate lyase. (-)-Hydroxycitric acid suppresses the fatty acid synthesis, lipogenesis, food intake, and induced weight loss[1][2].

In Vitro

(-)-Hydroxycitric acid (0-50 µM) reduces lipid droplets accumulation, and decreases ATP-citrate lyase, fatty acid synthase and sterol regulatory element binding protein-1c mRNA level in primary chicken hepatocytes[4].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

In Vivo

(-)-Hydroxycitric acid (1.0 mg/kg embryos, injection) reduces lipid droplets accumulation, triglyceride content, lipogenesis factors mRNA level and increases lipolysis factors mRNA expression in chicken embryos[3].
(-)-Hydroxycitric acid (p.o., once) shows a LD50 of greater than 5000 mg/kg in fasted male and female Albino rats[5].
(-)-Hydroxycitric acid (1000-3000 mg/kg diet for 8 weeks) reduces body weight gain, increases feed conversion ratio, and promotes protein synthesis in rats[6].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

In Vivo:

For the following dissolution methods, please prepare the working solution directly. It is recommended to prepare fresh solutions and use them promptly within a short period of time.
The percentages shown for the solvents indicate their volumetric ratio in the final prepared solution. If precipitation or phase separation occurs during preparation, heat and/or sonication can be used to aid dissolution.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
