Polyethylenimine (linear, average Mn 2100, PDI<1.3), a linear cationic polymer, is a versatile non-viral gene delivery vector, especially for oligonucleotide delivery. Polyethylenimine (linear, average Mn 2100, PDI<1.3) condenses DNA into positively charged particles that bind to anionic cell surfaces. Polyethylenimine (PEI) can be used in detergents, adhesives, water treatment agents and cosmetics[1][2][3].

In Vitro

Tansfection efficiency is maximal at ≈9-13.5 equivalents of Polyethylenimine (linear, average Mn 2100, PDI<1.3) nitrogen per DNA phosphate and Polyethylenimine (linear, average Mn 2100, PDI<1.3)/DNA ratio to 18 does not significantly affect cellular metabolism in HeLa cells[3].
Polyethylenimine (linear, average Mn 2100, PDI<1.3) gives transfection levels of the same order as lipopolyamines for various cell lines and primary cells in vitro[3].
