  4. IL-15 Receptor

IL-15 Receptor (IL-15R) is a heterotrimeric receptor which consists of IL-15Rα, IL-2Rβ and IL-2Rγc. IL-15R binds IL-15 (structurally similar to IL-2). IL-15Rα is a high affinity receptor for IL-15 (Kd: 100 pM), and IL-15R shares IL-2Rβ and IL-2Rγc subunits with IL-2R[1]. IL-15Rα can bind IL-15 and thereby activating the antitumor functions of NK cells and CD8+ T cells[2]. IL-15R alpha plays an important role in memory CD8 T cell homeostasis and lymphocyte development[1]. IL-15R alpha is also required for transporting of IL-15 from the endoplasmic reticulum to the cell surface[3].IL-15Rα is expressed on lymphocytes, myeloid cells, nonlymphoid and nonhematopoietic cells[1].
