Description

Lumichrome, a photodegradation product of Riboflavin, is an endogenous compound in humans. Lumichrome inhibits human lung cancer cell growth and induces apoptosis via a p53-dependent mechanism. Lumichrom is the inhibitor for AKT/β-catenin signaling pathway[1][2].

In Vitro

Lumichrome (0-100 μM, 24 h) exhibits cytotoxicity in cancer cells H292, A549 and H460 (IC50 = 38, 54 and 79 μM, respectively), induces apoptosis in these cells, and inhibits the colony formation[2].
Lumichrome (0-10 μM, 5-28 days) inhibits RANKL-induced osteoclastogenesis and bone resorption through inhibition of NFAT/NF-κB/MAPK/calcium signaling pathways[3].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Cell Viability Assay[2]

Cell Line: H292, A549 and H460
Concentration: 0-100 μM
Incubation Time: 24 h
Result: Inhibited cell viability.

Western Blot Analysis[2]

Cell Line: H292, A549 and H460
Concentration: 0-50 μM
Incubation Time: 24 h
Result: Increased expression of cleaved PARP, caspase-3/9, increased expression of p53.
In Vivo

Lumichrome (7.5 mg/kg, ip, three times a week for 6 weeks) reduces bone loss and prevents osteoporosis in the ovariectomized (OVX) mouse model[3].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Animal Model: OVX mouse model[3]
Dosage: 7.5 mg/kg
Administration: ip, three times a week for 6 weeks
Result: Increased bone mineral density (BMD) and bone volume fraction (BV/TV) in OVX mice, and reduced the osteoclast surface/bone surface (Oc.S/BS) ratio.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
