Data Sheet Handling Instructions Technical Support

6-Aminopenicillanic acid (6-APA) is a parent amine, an important precursor for the synthesis of β-lactam antibiotics and an antibacterial agent. 6-Aminopenicillanic acid interferes with cell wall synthesis during bacterial division in a manner similar to penicillin. 6-Aminopenicillanic acid has antibacterial activity against Gram-negative bacteria. 6-Aminopenicillanic acid is mainly used in the study of Penicillin-associated immune responses.

Description

6-Aminopenicillanic acid (6-APA) is a parent amine, an important precursor for the synthesis of β-lactam antibiotics and an antibacterial agent. 6-Aminopenicillanic acid interferes with cell wall synthesis during bacterial division in a manner similar to penicillin. 6-Aminopenicillanic acid has antibacterial activity against Gram-negative bacteria. 6-Aminopenicillanic acid is mainly used in the study of Penicillin-associated immune responses[1][2][3][4].

In Vitro

6-Aminopenicillanic acid (Sodium 6-aminopenicillanate, 0.34-3.4 μmol/mL, 4-5 h) can induce spheroplast formation in Gram-negative bacteria[2].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

In Vivo

6-Aminopenicillanic acid (injected with penicillin emulsified in complete Freund's adjuvant; intradermal and s.c. injection; multiple times) induces a more potent antibody response in rabbits compared to Penicillins G (HY-N7139), 0, or V (HY-B0975A)[4].
